Episode 8 – Salvaging Florida’s Urban Timber
January is a great time to escape the cold of north-central Washington! At the urging of my friend Pete Richardson, I headed down to Florida for a week to check out Pete’s new enterprise, Viable Lumber. Viable Lumber is an urban timber salvage cooperative in the Tampa/St. Petersburg region of the state. Pete and his colleagues have been salvaging some incredible wood–camphor, flamewood, Indian rosewood, live oak, and much, much more. Pete and I spent a day with Steve Parker, owner of Woodturningblanks4U and the sawyer for Viable Lumber. This video shares some of that experience and is a companion to an upcoming (early 2011) article I wrote for in American Woodturner.
